The IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society, College of Engineering Chengannur was officially inaugurated on February 28, 2014, by Dr K Gopakumar (Professor of the Dept. of Electronics, TKM College of Engineering). The event was conducted in association with STEP (Student Transition and Elevation Partnership) and has a participation of more than 100, from UG students of various departments, M Tech VLSI and Embedded Systems and faculties from various departments.
The function started with a welcome address by Mr Ajin Baby, who has given an introduction about the role of Young Professionals in IEEE and the importance of STEP. The presidential address was given by Dr Nisha Kuruvilla (HOD and Associate Professor of the Dept. of Electronics, College of Engineering Chengannur). She has given an introduction about IEEE SSCS, its role in the development of education in the field of VLSI and the activities possible under SSCS.
Followed by lighting the lamp ceremony, Dr Gopakumar has given the inaugural address. He has mentioned about the importance of SSCS and how it could improve the skills in education and research. The function concluded with a felicitation by Prof.Shanu N, Branch Counsellor, IEEE CEC.
The second session was started with an expert talk by Dr Gopakumar and the topic was ‘ASIC Tape Out: Designers’ Perspective’. He mentioned about the various areas where a VLSI engineer should work on. His topic deals with various steps in the SOC design process. He also explained each process in detail. The topic also deals with various analog and digital design steps and various factors to be taken care of, while designing.
The function ended up with bestowing a memento to Dr Gopakumar.The event received a good overall feedback.
